5 reasons to choose a hybrid system
When choosing the best heating system, there are a lot of factors to consider, including technical specifications, efficiency, costs and investment value. Another consideration is the choice between gas or electricity.

Both systems have proven effective but have different advantages. So why choose? Hoval’s hybrid system is a solution to maximise the efficiency of both sources, combining the benefits of the UltraGas 2 with those of the Belaria fit all in one system.
1. Maximum efficiency, in all seasons.
By pairing the UltraGas 2 gas boiler with the Belaria fit heat pump, the benefits of both products are combined.
During the colder months, when the outside temperature is cool but not too low, for example above 5°C, the heat pump works efficiently. It operates smoothly with a high coefficient of performance (COP), which allows for reduced electrical energy consumption. However, if the outdoor temperatures drop significantly, below -15°C, the heat pump operates with a lower coefficient of performance. At that time, electricity consumption can reach a ratio of 1:1 with heat production, which is not economically beneficial.
This is where the boiler comes in, providing savings and increased efficiency. Compared to the heat pump, the UltraGas 2 boiler operates with very low gas consumption during the cold period of the year, and can meet the heating and hot water needs of the building.
2. Synchronisation.
Thanks to the power management of the hybrid system, costs are minimised. Energy consumption remains low, which translates into a reduced heating bill. The intelligent Hoval TopTronic E control system, integrated into the hybrid solution, allows complete synchronisation between the two systems fully automatically. Only one initial configuration is necessary, carried out by a qualified Hoval technician, to define the desired values and automate the switching between the heat pump and the boiler, depending on the different modes and outside temperatures.
Unlike heating, the cost of which is influenced by the interior and exterior temperatures of the building, the cost of heating domestic hot water remains constant. Cold water has an almost constant temperature of around 10°C and must be heated to 45-60°C before reaching users. In this case, water heating can be provided by a third Hoval solution, the TransTherm aqua F GSWT DHW tank. During the summer months it is possible to use the heat pump to heat the water in a very economical way and to combine the modes of producing domestic hot water and cooling, while in winter the tank DHW provides hot water heating. A flexible application that always contributes to reducing overall costs.
3. Look to the future: invest wisely.
The investment in a hybrid system can quickly pay off. Comparatively, the investment in a heat pump system is higher than that of a gas condensing boiler system. This is why the hybrid solution offers a reasonable balance in terms of investment.
By choosing a Belaria fit heat pump with a power equivalent to 50% of the thermal power required for the building, we can cover 80% of the annual heat consumption. For the remaining 20%, it is wise to opt for a hybrid system including an UltraGas 2, which will meet peak demand on cold days, as well as a domestic hot water tank: the TransTherm aqua F. A system combining the 3 Hoval solutions makes it possible to significantly integrate renewable energy sources into the heating system. In this way, even large-scale heating systems can be implemented cost-effectively.
The UltraGas 2 boiler also prepares for the future and the transition to new energy sources as it is compatible with biogas and hydrogen.
4. By your side, for a long time.
When systems operate in the most economical mode, their operating cycle is significantly reduced each year, providing them with the best operating conditions and also extending their service life.
Regular and appropriate maintenance is also necessary to ensure their proper functioning and good performance.
5. Hybrid system, always there for each other.
Even the highest quality equipment requires inspection and preventive maintenance. A well-maintained solution always operates at optimal parameters, without compromising its efficiency, serving your savings. Hybrid system solutions must be inspected at least once a year, which involves a short interruption of their operation to carry out preventative measures.
But don't worry, while the maintenance technician is servicing the boiler, the heat pump can continue to operate, and vice versa. Guaranteed uninterrupted operation, which can be crucial in environments such as hospitals, industrial buildings, gyms and other public and production-related buildings.
